Kurze Beschreibung des Gerätes (maximal 5000 Zeichen):
The local electrode atom probe LEAP 5000 XR, manufactured by Cameca Instruments Inc., is operated within StrucMatLab at Materials Chemistry since 2014 and has been upgraded from the previous version LEAP 4000X HR in 2025. Atom probe tomography enables the nanoscale spatially-resolved analysis of the chemical composition in 3D. The working principle is combines mass spectrometry with projection microscopy and is based on field evaporation of eventually individual atoms from needle-like specimens. Evaporated atoms are ionized in the vicinity of an electric field and these ions are recorded with a position-sensitive detection system based on microchannel plates. The time-of-flight of each ion is monitored and the resulting mass spectrum is used for assignment of chemical species to each peak. Based on projection algorithms the position of each ion within the needle-like specimen before field evaporation is reconstructed. Thereby, the chemical composition of features at the nanometer scale such as dislocations, grain boundaries, phase boundaries and precipitates can be determined.
